High blood pressure is a deadly disease affecting almost one billion people worldwide. The number of victims is likely to cross over 1.56 billion by 2025. In Pakistan one out of every five persons over the age of 45 years suffer blood pressure.

When our heart pumps, blood travels exerting force against the walls of arteries. This exertion of force by blood is called blood pressure. “Systolic” (blood volume or cardiac output) refers to blood pressure when the heart beats while pumping blood. “Diastolic” (resistance of the blood vessels) refers to blood pressure when the heart is at rest between beat. The average systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure for most healthy adults is 120/80. It lowers during our sleep and rises when we wake up. Blood pressure also rises when we are excited, nervous, or active.

The irony is that more than 50% of patients in our country do not have a clear concept about the treatment of high blood pressure. They usually take notice of symptoms of their ailment after organs have been damaged. The causes of high blood pressure include narrowed arteries, obesity, high cholesterol, sodium diet, smoking, emotional stress, hormonal dysfunction blood clot, thick blood and kidney diseases etc.

Mrs Zille Huma Hashmi from Sialkot, patient of high blood pressue, visited me for treatment in June 2009. According to her narration she developed diabetes one and a half years earlier. The use of medicines for treatment of this disease led her to fall victim of high blood pressure without getting any relief from diabetes. In fact about 75% diabetes patients develop high blood pressure only due to the malfunctioning of their metabolic processes. They are given heavy doses of allopathic medicines and often kept in dark about what is happening inside their bodies. After every few months the patients have to face new ailments, which may be more serious than the original complaint.

Homeopathic system of medicine believes that treating the underlying cause of disease is the major step towards effective treatment. Once the underlying cause of high blood pressure is fixed the blood pressure returns to normal.

Mrs Zille Huma’s sugar level and cholesterol level became normal within two years of her homeopathic treatment.

Another patient of blood pressure who approached me was 23-year-old Waqar Aziz. He was diagnosed with Hepatitis C in January 2006. He was given interferon injections that made him to suffer nephritic syndrome (a kidney disease). After sometime he also developed diabetes and high blood pressure.

He told me that he has been suffering from throat infections since his childhood. At the age of 12 he was declared as an allergy patient. He had been using a very high dose of anti-allergy and anti-inflammatory drugs along with antibiotics to overcome the disease.

In every winter he would become ill with hay fever though in summer he would feel relatively better. But after some years he started remaining ill throughout the year. His kidney function reports caused him a lot of worry. His urine contained pus and blood in great quantity. Blood urea and cretinine had crossed the dangerous levels. When he would see his swollen face in the mirror in the morning he would become extremely depressed. At last his physician referred him to an immunologist saying that his body’s immunity had collapsed due to the antibiotics and anti-allergy medicines. At this stage he approached me after being advised by someone to try homeopathic remedy.

It took me almost three years to treat Waqar Aziz but the reward was worth this long struggle. Now by the grace of Allah he is enjoying very healthy life without depending on any medicine whatsoever and these days he is completing his MS in computer science in UK. Waqar’s recovery is still part of my cherished memory that gives me a renewed confidence in homeopathy as a physician.
